"Yesterday Is Gone (My Dear Kay)" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz.[1][2] The song was released by Virgin as the fifth and final single from his sixth studio album Lenny.[3][4] Critics noted similarities between the Kravitz's performance and that of John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix.[5]

Reception[]

Sal Cinquemani of Slant wrote, "the singer’s classic rock influence (and devoted recreation of it) is once again evident on Lenny, with tracks like “Yesterday Is Gone”.[5] Tom Sinclair of Entertainment Weekly added, "While it’s hard not to wish that Kravitz’s music was just a few degrees better than it actually is, he has improved over the years. You can still hear the Beatle-isms in a song like ”Yesterday Is Gone,” but it no longer feels like he’s consciously trying to rewrite ”Tomorrow Never Knows.”[6] Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone observed, "It takes a rare kind of rock-star gall to use the title "Yesterday Is Gone" for a power ballad that evokes Bon Jovi circa 7800o Fahrenheit, and Kravitz is surely the only singer alive who would dare to serenade his lady with the words, "Just spread your wings and go with the tide," a lyric that by no conceivable stretch of the English language means anything at all."[7]
