The 191415 season was the 27th season of The Football League. It was the final season before football was suspended at the outbreak of World War I.

Final league tables[]

The tables below are reproduced here in the exact form that they can be found at The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation website[1] and in Rothmans Book of Football League Records 1888–89 to 1978–79,[2] with home and away statistics separated.

Beginning with the season 1894–95, clubs finishing level on points were separated according to goal average (goals scored divided by goals conceded), or more properly put, goal ratio. In case one or more teams had the same goal difference, this system favoured those teams who had scored fewer goals. The goal average system was eventually scrapped beginning with the 1976–77 season.

From the 1894–95 season and until the 1920–21 season the re-election process was required of the clubs which finished in the bottom three of the league.[2]

  1. ^ Jump up to: a b c Derby County, Preston North End and Arsenal were promoted to First Division after WW I, as the number of teams in both divisions was expanded to 22.
  2. ^ It is said that Sir Henry Norris arranged for the Arsenal's promotion back to the First Division, in controversial circumstances.
  3. ^ Jump up to: a b The official Football League records originally showed Birmingham in 5th place and Arsenal in 6th place. In 1975 it was discovered that an error in the calculation of Goal Average had been made and the table was corrected.
  4. ^ Glossop failed to be re-elected to the Football League, never to return again. A resurrected Stoke, along with Coventry City, South Shields, Rotherham County and West Ham United joined the Second Division after the war.
