Although the "Gator" was voted to be the mascot for the team in 1931, local newspaper articles called the team the "Golden Gaters". The team was led by second-year head coach Dave Cox. They played home games at Ewing Field in San Francisco, California. San Francisco State finished with a record of one win and seven losses (1–7). For the season the team was outscored by its opponents 57–149.
