The 1971 San Francisco State Gators football team represented San Francisco State College[note 1] during the 1971 NCAA College Division football season.

San Francisco State competed in the Far Western Conference (FWC).[note 2] The Gators were led by head coach Vic Rowen in his 11th year at the helm. They played home games at Cox Stadium in San Francisco, California. The team finished the regular season with a record of five wins and six losses (5–6, 2–4 FWC). For the season the team was outscored by its opponents 209–332.
