Claudiu Vasile Bumba (born 5 January 1994) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as a winger or an attacking midfielder for Nemzeti Bajnokság I club Kisvárda.

He started out at as a senior at Baia Mare teams FC and FCMU, and moved to FCM Târgu Mureș at age 17 to record his debut in the top tier. Following a loan spell at Roma Primavera between 2012 and 2013, Bumba returned to the then-renamed ASA Târgu Mureș for two additional years. Since leaving the latter, he went on to appear for sides in Israel, Turkey and Hungary, apart from two stints in his native country.

A former Romania youth international at several levels, Bumba earned his first and only cap for the full side in 2012, in a 4–0 friendly victory over Turkmenistan.[1][2]

Club career[]

FC Baia Mare / FCMU Baia Mare[]

Bumba made his league debut for FC Baia Mare in a 1–1 draw with Gaz Metan CFR Craiova on 10 October 2009, at the age of 15.[3]

After FC Baia Mare's dissolution, he moved to the newly-created FC Maramureș Universitar Baia Mare, aiding the team to achieve promotion to Liga II.

ASA Târgu Mureș[]

In the summer of 2011, Bumba moved to top league club FCM Târgu Mureș.[4] He registered his Liga I debut in a match against Dinamo București, aged 17.[5] In October 2011 he scored a goal in a game against Sportul Studențesc to earn a draw for his team.[6] On 25 March, in a game against Astra Ploiești, Bumba opened the score in the 44th minute.[7] The game ended in a 2–0 victory for Târgu Mureş, with Andrei Cordoş scoring the second goal.[8]

In March 2012 it was confirmed by manager Maurizio Trombetta that Udinese is monitoring Bumba.[9] In May 2012, after continuous good plays, he was included by Sport.ro in a Top 10 list of Romanian youths to watch.[10] He was mentioned alongside names like Nicolae Stanciu, George Țucudean or Gheorghe Grozav.

Bumba finished his breakthrough season at Târgu Mureş by putting in 29 appearances and scoring three goals.[11] His good plays could not help his team avoid relegation to Liga II,[12] as they finished 15th out of 18.[13]

In the summer of 2012 Roma paid €600,000 to secure Bumba's services on a one-year loan deal.[14] On 6 September, after he recovered from an injury, Bumba scored a goal for Roma Primavera in the Supercoppa Primavera to help his team win the trophy.[15]

In July 2013, Bumba returned to Târgu Mureș, where he found a new team, after FCM changed its name to ASA.[16] On 11 January 2015, Bumba signed a contract for three and a half years with Astra Giurgiu.[17] After less than a month, Bumba returned to ASA Târgu Mureș due to a breach of contract.[18]

Hapoel Tel Aviv[]

On 19 June 2015, he signed a four-year contract with Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv.[19]

Dinamo București[]

On 2 February 2017, he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Dinamo București.[20] He scored his first goal for Dinamo on 10 April, in 2–1 league win against Astra Giurgiu.[21]

International career[]

Bumba made his debut for Romania U-17 on 21 September 2010 in a game against Kazakhstan U-17. He played with the under-17 team at the 2011 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship. On 6 October 2011, in a game against Sweden U-19, Bumba came in as a substitute after 44 minutes to make his debut for Romania U-19.

Bumba played one friendly game for Romania on 27 January 2012 when coach Victor Pițurcă sent him on the field in the 79th minute in order to replace Cristian Tănase in 4–0 victory against Turkmenistan.[1][2][22] He impressed with his physical fitness, having an excellent muscular mass and stamina for his age.[23]

Personal life[]

Bumba revealed in August 2021 that he considers taking up Hungarian citizenship, after not being called up to the Romania national team in several years. One of his great-grandmothers is of Hungarian ethnicity.[24]
