Dog Chow is a name brand of dog food marketed and manufactured by Nestlé Purina PetCare. The brand's dry dog food is offered worldwide, in numerous formulas. Dog Chow was first introduced in 1957, and only took two years to become the leading brand sold in the United States.[1] It has since expanded its brand offerings to include products for young dogs, elderly dogs, and dogs needing a weight maintenance formula as well as extended to other types of pet food, including Puppy Chow, Cat Chow, and Kitten Chow.
A series of animated cartoons beginning in 1962-63 television season marked the earliest known appearance of puppet character Rowlf the Dog by Jim Henson.
