Croatia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the song "Everything I Want" written by Milana Vlaović. The song was performed by Vesna Pisarović. Croatian broadcaster Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) organised the national final Dora 2002 in order to select the Croatian entry for the 2002 contest in Tallinn, Estonia. The national final took place on 10 March 2002. Twenty songs competed and a combination of votes from five regional juries, an expert jury, regional televoting and internet voting selected "Sasvim sigurna" performed by Vesna Pisarović as the winner. The song was later translated from Croatian to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Everything I Want".

Croatia was drawn to perform in position 6 in the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 25 May 2002. In the final, Croatia placed eleventh out of the 24 participating countries, scoring 44 points.

Prior to the 2002 Contest, Croatia had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest nine times since its first entry in 1993.[1] The nation's best result in the contest was fourth, which it achieved on two occasions: in 1996 with the song "Sveta ljubav" performed by Maja Blagdan and in 1999 with the song "Marija Magdalena" performed by Doris Dragović.

The Croatian national broadcaster, Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT), broadcasts the event within Croatia and organises the selection process for the nation's entry. Between 1993 and 2001, HRT organised the national final Dora in order to select the Croatian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, a method that continued for their 2002 participation.[2]

The final took place on 10 March 2002 at the Zagreb Fair in Zagreb with a symphony orchestra, and was hosted by Dusko Ćurlić and Bojana Gregorić. The winner, "Sasvim sigurna" performed by Vesna Pisarović, was determined by a combination of votes from five regional juries, an expert jury, regional televoting and internet voting.[3] Ivana Spagna and Vanna, who represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001, performed as guests during the show.[4]

Preparation[]

Following Vesna Pisarović's win at Dora, a public televote held between 13 and 18 March determined the language of the song Pisarović would perform at the Eurovision Song Contest.[5] Following consultation with music industry experts as well as taking the results of public researches and the public televote into consideration, HRT announced that Pisarović would perform the song in English, titled "Everything I Want".[6]
