Gabe Noel (sometimes credited as Gabriel Noel) is an American musician, composer, arranger, and sound designer currently residing in Los Angeles.

Biography and career[]

Born July 2, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois, Gabe began playing cello at the age of 4, eventually gravitating to the bass at 13. While in high school he received a Fellowship to attend the Aspen Music Festival and School, and performed with the Chicago Youth Symphony (CYSO) at Carnegie Hall.[2] In 2002 Gabe began touring with Fareed Haque[3] and in 2003 became a NFAA Clifford Brown / Stan Getz Fellowship recipient.[1] He graduated from New Trier High School in 2003.

In 2003 Gabe moved to Los Angeles to attend USC, graduating with a degree in Humanities in 2007.

Gabe has recorded, toured, and performed with a wide range of artists since beginning his professional career following college. Highlights include Kendrick Lamar, Grand Theft Auto V,[4] Father John Misty, Ry Cooder, Harry Styles, Tyler The Creator, João Donato, Kenny Loggins, Jackson Browne, Marshall Allen, Roy Harper, Earl Sweatshirt, Jonathan Wilson,[5][6] Local Natives,[7] Foster the People, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Haden Triplets, Meshell N'degeocello, David Holmes, Mario Caldato, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Sam Amidon, Van Dyke Parks, and Inara George

His upright bass playing can be instantly recognized on Kendrick Lamar's "How Much A Dollar Cost", True Detective Season 1 Finale, and his String arrangements on Father John Misty's "This Is Sally Hatchet" and "Funtimes in Babylon", among others.

In October 2012 Gabe toured Poland with Austin Peralta, his last solo performances before his death.[8]

In a 2014 concert in Nashville with Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, and The Haden Triplets, Gabe was described as "the happiest bass player I've ever seen".[9]

In 2016, Gabe released his first solo cello album Ventana, followed in 2018 by a live music series at Zebulon L.A. called FANTASTIC MORNING.

In season 44 of Saturday Night Live, Gabe and cast member Beck Bennett co-wrote the song "Holes", performed by Adam Sandler.
