Gabaidulin Gennady Gabaydulovich (Tatar: Гыйниятулла Гобәйдулла улы, Russian: Габайдулин Геннадий Габайдулович; June 15, 1914, Tokayevo village, Kazan Governorate[1] - May 14, 1981) - participant of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union.[2]

Biography[]

Gabaidulin was born on June 15, 1914 in the village of Tokayevo into a peasant family. He graduated from a seven-year school, worked on a collective farm.

In 1932 he moved to the city of Gorky, worked at a car factory, first as an apprentice, then as a mechanic. From 1936 to 1939 he served in the Red Army in the Far East. Demobilized with the rank of junior machine gun platoon commander, returned to work at the Gorky Automobile Plant. Member of the CPSU (b)/CPSU since 1944.

In August 1941 he volunteered for the front. He was appointed commander of the reconnaissance squad of the 24th separate mortar division (29th Army, Kalinin Front). He received his baptism of fire in the battle for Moscow. On February 7, 1942, near the city of Rzhev, six scouts under the command of the guard sergeant Gabaidulin fell into a German ambush. After the death of his comrades, the wounded Gabaidulin fought alone until reinforcements arrived.

On March 24, 1942, Gennady Gabaidulovich Gabaidulin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for his fortitude and valor shown in battle.[3]

After completing the crash course of the Arzamas military school, he was the commander of a control platoon in the part of the guards mortars on the Leningrad Front.

Participated in the lifting of the siege of Leningrad. Then he fought on the Karelian Isthmus, was wounded during the capture of Vyborg. After treatment in the hospital, he returned to the active army; took part in the capture of Magdeburg and the battle of Berlin.

In December 1945, Guard Senior Lieutenant Gabaidulin was demobilized. He returned to the city of Gorky, raised two daughters and a son. Prior to retirement, he worked at the Gorky Automobile Plant.

He died on May 14, 1981 in the city of Gorky. He was buried at the Staro-Avtozavodsky cemetery.[4] In Nizhny Novgorod, a memorial plaque was installed on the house where Gabaidulin lived.
