Jamuna Television (Bengali: যমুনা টেলিভিশন; lit. 'Jamuna Television'), commonly known as Jamuna TV, stylized as jamuna|tv, is a privately owned Bangladeshi satellite and cable news and current affairs television channel. It is owned by the Jamuna Group, and was founded by the company's founder and former chairman Nurul Islam Babul in 2014.[2] The channel's headquarters are located in the Jamuna Future Park Complex at Progoti Shoroni in Baridhara. 

History[]

In 2002, Jamuna Television gained an NOC certificate for the channel to run for five years. Although its certificate has been expired by then, the original channel began test broadcasting on October 15, 2009. The BTRC shut the channel down on November 19 after the channel has been airing illegally.[3] However, on July 29, 2013, the channel was once again granted a license to relaunch.[4] Jamuna Television was officially launched on April 5, 2014.[5]

In December 2018, journalists working for Jamuna Television and Jugantor were attacked in the Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka, injuring 10 people.[6] Jamuna Television was temporarily taken off-air during the 2018 Bangladeshi general election.[7] In 2019, three journalists working for Jamuna Television were assaulted by eight to ten people in a rehabilitation center in Bogra. Police have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the incident.[8]

Jamuna Television is on air 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using the most sophisticated production and newsgathering technologies to produce a strong schedule of a reality show, news, sport and much more, as well a variety of current affairs, informational and entertainment programs like.

In 2015, a Reporter named Mizan Malik of the TV win Muktijuddho Jadughar-Bazlur Rahman Award on Journalism relate to Independence War of Bangladesh. Jamuna TV acclaimed as Entrepreneur Friendly Media 2014 by Bangladesh Open Source Network for "Start!" TV program.

Controversies[]

In 2015, telecommunications company Grameenphone filed a defamation case against Jamuna Television and Jugantor for publishing 'fake' news against the company.[9] Later in 2018, another case was filed against the two entities by the conglomerate PRAN-RFL Group for similar reasons. They were also sued by Robi and the National Board of Revenue.[10]
