Jiříkov (German: Girsig) is a village and municipality in Bruntál District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. The cadastral territory covers an area of 35.28 km² and as of 2006 it had a population of 304.
History[]
The first known written mention of the village is from the year 1264. Jiříkov was probably settled as part of the colonization activities of the Olomouc Bishop .
In 1494 the village belonged to the Sovinec estate.
Of the original row of buildings, only a few houses remained after World War II. Today this "Old Town" consists mostly of new buildings.
Attractions[]
St. Michael's Church, dating from 1787. Its core tower is from older buildings (1605).[1] Today the church is closed.
Jiříkov in Culture[]
Jiříkov and its inhabitants play a major role in Bohdan Slama's film Wild Bees.[2]
