This is a list of area codes in the U.S. state of Florida. Florida is serviced with twenty-two telephone area codes.

History[]

When the first area code plan was introduced in 1947, the entire state was a single numbering plan area with area code 305. In 1953, area code 813 was introduced for the western coast of Florida, and 904 was assigned for northern Florida in 1965. In 1988, area code 407 was introduced for the Orlando area.[1] In 1995, area code 954 was introduced for Broward County. In 1996, area code 239 was introduced for southwest Florida and area code 352 for the areas around Gainesville and Ocala.

Many of these new area codes have been introduced in the last two decades, as a result of city expansion throughout Florida. The most recent area codes assigned to the state are area code 689 in June 2019, an overlay with 407/321, serving the Orlando metro area, 448, an overlay to 850 serving the panhandle, and 656,[2] an overlay to 813, serving portions of the Tampa Bay area, including the city.
