South Korean boy band Big Bang, formed in 2006 under YG Entertainment, composes of five-members–G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P, Daesung, and Seungri. The group officially debuted on August 28, 2006 with the single album Big Bang, and followed two more single albums leading up to their debut Korean-language studio album, Bigbang Vol.1 (2006). The group's early works were met with little commercial success; it was not until their 2007 breakthrough single "Lies" where the group began to gain widespread recognition in the industry. At the 2007 Mnet Km Music Festival, Big Bang was nominated for five categories, taking home Song of the Year for "Lies" and Best Male Artist. In January 2008, Big Bang won all three categories where they were nominated in at the 17th Seoul Music Awards, including Artist of the Year and Record of the Year in Digital Release for “Lies”. A year later, they were awarded Artist of the Year and Best Male Group and at the 2008 Mnet Km Music Festival. Their second studio album Remember (2008) received the Record of the Year award at the 2009 Seoul Music Awards. Big Bang expanding their popularity overseas by releasing their first two Japanese studio albums Number 1 (2008) and Big Bang (2009), and won Best New Artist at the 2009 Japan Record Awards.
Big Bang returned to South Korea with their fourth extended play Tonight (2011), which yielded two singles–"Tonight" and "Love Song"–with the latter winning Song of the Year (April) at the 1st Gaon Chart Music Awards and Best Music Video at the annual Mnet Asian Music Awards in Singapore. In the same year, Big Bang was presented the first ever award for Best Worldwide Act at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards. In February 2012, the group released their fifth EP Alive, which spawned the hit singles "Fantastic Baby", "Blue" and "Bad Boy". That November, Big Bang were nominated in six categories at the annual 2012 Mnet Asian Music Awards, later winning three awards including Artist of the Year and Best Male Group. They were also awarded the Guardian Angel award at the same ceremony following the success of their first worldwide concert tour, the Alive Galaxy Tour. At the 2nd Gaon Chart Music Awards, Alive and its singles "Blue" and "Fantastic Baby" won Album of the Year (1st Quarter) and Song of the Year for February and March, respectively.
Beginning in 2013, the group members pursued individual endeavors and released various works as solo artists. The group reunited in May 2015 and commenced their "Made" series, where they released two singles under each letter of that word as M, A, D, and E, with each part released at the beginning of every month from May to August 2015. The series was a success, and led Big Bang to being the most nominated and awarded act at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards in Hong Kong, winning four out of eight nominations including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for the single "Bang Bang Bang", and Best Music Video for song "Bae Bae". At the annual Melon Music Awards, they were nominated in five categories and took the Artist of the Year award in addition to Song of the Year for "Bang Bang Bang". The group additionally went on to win Song of the Year and the Pop Song of the Year award for "Bae Bae" and "Loser", respectively, at the Korean Music Awards. At the 2016 Golden Disc Awards, they won three categories including Song of the Year for "Loser". At the 5th Gaon Chart Music Awards in February 2016, Big Bang won Song of the Year for four consecutive months from May to August with their singles from Made: "Loser", "Bang Bang Bang", "If You", and "Let’s Not Fall In Love".
