IKEA is a multinational group of companies that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture (such as beds, chairs and desks), appliances and home accessories. As of November 2018, there are 446 IKEA stores operating in 52 countries.[1]

8 Canada Canada 1975 Dartmouth 14 The first IKEA store in North America opened in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1975 and closed 13 years later,[14][15] though the company opened a new Dartmouth location in 2017.[16] As of 2020, there were 14 stores in six provinces, as well as 31 pickup-only collection points including in the four provinces not served by regular stores.[17]
9 Hong Kong Hong Kong 1975 Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui) 4 The first store opened in Hong Kong (then a British colony) in Tsim Sha Tsui; the original store was later relocated. Groningen store is the third largest in Europe with 42,000 square metres (450,000 sq ft). Newest store opened in February 2015 in Zwolle.[20] The old store in Sliedrecht closed in 2006.[21]

14 Iceland Iceland 1981 Reykjavík 1 Originally, IKEA started its business in a loft above a grocery store in Reykjavík. Later, after having spent a decade in a large warehouse, it reopened (at around 20,000 m2 (220,000 sq ft) in Garðabær in October 2006).[23] IKEA's director in Iceland said that they want to open a store in Akureyri in the upcoming years,[24] but meanwhile that plan was shelved (and instead a limit put on shipping cost).[25]

16 Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia 1983 Jeddah 4 First IKEA in a Muslim-majority country; stores are located in the metropolitan areas of Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dhahran. The Riyadh and Jeddah stores have been completely rebuilt and relocated in recent years. The store in Dhahran opened in 2008. The second store in Jeddah opened in 2017. Two pick-up points also opened in two cities.
17 Belgium Belgium 1984 Zaventem and Ternat (near Brussels) 8 Stores in Anderlecht, Arlon, Ghent, Hasselt, Liège, Mons, Wilrijk and Zaventem. In 2008 the IKEA store in Ternat closed. In 2016, the stores in Hasselt and Mons opened, and in October of that year, IKEA bought a piece of land to open a second store in Antwerp.[26] Another new store will open near Kortrijk, but not anytime soon.

19  United States 1985 Plymouth Meeting (near Philadelphia) 52[28] This is IKEA's second largest market, after Germany. The first IKEA in the U.S. was built in the Philadelphia suburb of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania; this store has since moved to Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. In 1992, IKEA acquired the California-based STØR chain, adding three of that chain's four locations to their US presence; that chain's Houston, Texas location, which operated under a franchise agreement, became one of only a few independently franchised IKEA locations in the world.[29] The first IKEA in Puerto Rico opened its doors in 2013 in Bayamón.[30]
20  United Kingdom 1987 Warrington, Cheshire 21 IKEA opened a 32,000 square metres (340,000 sq ft) store in Calcot, Reading, Berkshire on 14 July 2016 and opened in September 2017 in Sheffield. On the 10 May 2018, the UK's 21st store opened in Exeter.[31][32] Additionally the UK has two Order and Collect points; Norwich[33] and Aberdeen.[34] An IKEA planning studio was opened in London in 2018. On 4 February 2020, IKEA announced its first ever UK store closure of its Coventry city centre store due to consistent losses.[35]

23  Poland 1990 Janki (near Warsaw) 12 There are three stores in Warsaw, however the newest one, located in the Blue City shopping mall and opened in 2018, is due to be shut down in December 2021.[37] Stores are also located in Gdańsk, Wrocław, Katowice, Kraków, Poznań, Łódź, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, and Szczecin. Over 70 Click & Collect (Zamów i odbierz) points are dispersed across Poland.[38]
24 Czech Republic Czech Republic (then part of Czechoslovakia Czechoslovakia) 1991 (Prague) 4 There are two IKEA stores in Prague and one concept store: one at Zličín and one at Černý Most; both Zličín and Černý most are located at the periphery of Prague. The concept store was located on the Wenceslas square. The first original store at Budějovická - Prague 4 was abandoned.[when?] Outside of Prague there are two locations - in the country's second largest city, Brno, and in Ostrava. There are three stores planned within six years (Plzeň, Hradec Králové and a third location in Prague). In 2018 a concept store was opened on the Wenceslas square in downtown Prague and was closed at the end of 2019.
25 Serbia Serbia (then part of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Yugoslavia) 1991 Belgrade 1 The first IKEA store in present-day Serbia was opened in 1991, but was closed in 1992 due to UN sanctions over Yugoslavia.[39] IKEA returned after 25 years and officially opened its first store on August 10, 2017.[40][41] IKEA plans to develop a 40,000 square metres retail park in Belgrade, in addition to the department store in Bubanj Potok[42] and furthermore open one more department store in Serbian capital and three more stores in cities of Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Niš for which the land has already been acquired back in 2013. Belgrade IKEA office is regional center for former Yugoslavia and Romania.
26 United Arab Emirates United Arab Emirates 1991 Dubai 3 There are three stores in the UAE, located in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Al Ain.[43] The first store opened in City Centre Deira in Dubai. The Dubai store later shifted to Festival Waterfront Centre. The IKEA store in Abu Dhabi was originally located at the Marina Mall. It has since shifted to Yas Island.[44] The Al Ain store is located near the camel souq and Bawadi Mall.
27 Slovakia Slovakia (then part of Czechoslovakia Czechoslovakia) 1992 Bratislava 1 Original store was closed upon the opening of a new store in the Avion Shopping Park. There are two more stores planned in Slovakia, in Košice and Žilina.
28 Taiwan Taiwan 1994 Taipei 6 IKEA opened their first store in Taipei in 1994. There are currently 6 IKEA stores operating in various cities across Taiwan, namely: Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Kaohsiung and Taichung, with 2 stores being located in New Taipei in Hsinchuang and Xindian and 1 store each in other cities. The latest IKEA store to have opened is located in the Neihu District of Taipei on April 28, 2021. As of today, the Taoyuan store is the largest of all 6 stores currently operating in Taiwan. The IKEA franchise in Taiwan was initially owned by Jardine Matheson, but it is currently owned by Dairy Farm International Holdings. On April 26, 2021 the first IKEA store to open in Taiwan (located on the corner of Tunhua North Road and Nanjing East road in Taipei) closed down after 23 years of service.
29 Finland Finland 1996 Espoo 6 Stores were opened in Vantaa in 2003, in Raisio in 2008, in Tampere in 2010 and Kuopio in 2011. The Tampere store is the biggest IKEA in Finland.
30 Malaysia Malaysia 1996 Bandar Utama 4 Re-located to Mutiara Damansara, Selangor, in 2003. The second store in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur was opened on November 19, 2015.[45][46] On November 15, 2017, a store was opened in Tebrau, Johor Bahru. Latest IKEA store in Batu Kawan, Penang opened on the March 14, 2019.[47][48]

There are 3 IKEA stores in Moscow (Khimki, Teply Stan and ), 2 stores in St. Petersburg ( and Dybenko), stores in Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Novaya Adygea (in Adygea near Krasnodar), Samara, Omsk and Ufa. The IKEA stores in Russia are in connection with MEGA malls developed by IKEA. 5-6 new openings are planned by 2020.
33 Israel Israel 2001 Netanya 6[50] IKEA operates in Israel through a franchise company, IKEA Israel, which is owned by Matthew Bronfman. IKEA has six stores in Israel, located in Netanya, Beit Shemesh, Rishon LeZion, Kiryat Ata, and Beersheba.[51] In 2019, IKEA opened a new store concept focusing exclusively on kitchens with an area of 5,000 sq. meters called IKEA Kitchens located in Tel Aviv at the Tel Aviv Port.
34 Greece Greece 2001 Thessaloniki 5 The first store opened in Thessaloniki on October 24, 2001. IKEA subsequently opened two stores in Athens and one in Larissa and Ioannina each.[52]
35 Portugal Portugal 2004 Alfragide (near Lisbon) 5 Second store opened on July 31, 2007 in Matosinhos, with 36,000 square metres (390,000 sq ft),[53] and third store opened on 25 May 2010, in Frielas, Loures, the largest store on the Iberian Peninsula with 39,000 m2. The fourth store opened in Braga with 22,000 square metres (240,000 sq ft). The fifth and last IKEA store opened in 2018 in Loulé, being the first one in the Algarve.
36 Turkey Turkey 2005 Istanbul 7 There are three stores in Istanbul (Bayrampaşa, Kartal and Ümraniye), one store in İzmir (Bornova), one store in Bursa (Osmangazi), one store in Ankara (Mamak) and one store in Antalya (Kepez).
37 Romania Romania 2007 Bucharest 2 26,000 square metres (280,000 sq ft) store opened on March 21, 2007, in Băneasa retail park.[54] A second 37,000 square metres (400,000 sq ft) store was opened in Bucharest on June 24, 2019.[55] Stores planned to open in Timișoara, Brașov and Cluj-Napoca.

41 Bulgaria Bulgaria 2011 Sofia 1 IKEA opened its first store in the Bulgarian capital Sofia on September 20, 2011.[64] IKEA additionally runs three smaller stores called "order centers" with limited selections on location in Varna, Burgas, and Plovdiv. These stores also serve as online order pick up locations for deliveries from the main store in Sofia.[65]
42 Thailand Thailand 2011 Bangkok 3 The first IKEA in Thailand opened its door on 3 November 2011, in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan. It is expected to have 43,000 square metres (460,000 sq ft) of retail space as a part of the Mega Bangna Shopping Center.[66][67] Second store is located in Bang Yai, Nonthaburi as a part of CentralPlaza WestGate shopping mall.[68] IKEA also has a pick-up and order point in Phuket.[69]
43 Macau Macau 2012 Taipa 1 In 2012, Macau had its first IKEA merchandise pick up store in Avenida de Venceslau de Morais. In April 2016, IKEA is interested on enhancing customers experience, the new location of the merchandise pick up is located in Macau Tower. With the success of the merchandise pick-up store, IKEA announced the first store in the city will open in 2020.[70][71]

Macau’s first IKEA opened on April 23, 2020. Located at Nova Grand Shopping Centre in Taipa. The store has a non-traditional IKEA design where customers are allowed to explore the store freely and enter the store from either floor.[72] The Macau Tower merchandise pick-up point remains in service.

44 Lithuania Lithuania 2013 Vilnius 3 First IKEA in the Baltics. The first IKEA store in Lithuania was opened on August 14, 2013 in Vilnius. It has the capacity of 26,000 square metres and is also considered to be one of the best projects in the history of IKEA. The store is located near Vilnius International Airport.[73][74] The second and the third stores are located in Klaipėda[75] and Kaunas.[75]
45 Puerto Rico Puerto Rico 2013 Bayamon 3 The first IKEA store in Puerto Rico was opened March 10, 2013. All stores operate as showrooms as central warehouse operates in Carolina, Puerto Rico. The warehouse is not open to the public.
46 Egypt Egypt 2013 Cairo 3 The first IKEA store in Africa opened on November 26, 2013. The store is located in Cairo Festival City Mall, and it has 34,500 square meters.[76] The mega project owned by Al-Futtaim Group is located in New Cairo, near the Suez Road, Ring Road, Police Academy, and The American International School in Egypt.[77] IKEA also has stores at the Mall of Arabia in 6th of October City and in Sidi Abdel Rahman.[78][79]
47 Qatar Qatar 2013 Doha 1 The first IKEA in Qatar opened its door on March 11, 2013.[80] The store is located in Doha Festival City Mall.
48 Jordan Jordan 2014 Amman 1 The first IKEA in Jordan[81] opened its doors on 6 March 2014.[82] IKEA Jordan store is located on Airport road, after Madaba bridge going to Amman and it is IKEA's largest store in the Middle East with an area of 42,000 square metres and 400 Jordanian employees.
49 Croatia Croatia 2014 Zagreb 1 The first IKEA in Croatia[83] opened its doors on 21 August 2014 and with total area of 38,000 m2 (410,000 sq ft) is one of the five biggest in Europe and among 10 biggest IKEA stores in the world.[84]
50 Indonesia Indonesia 2014 Tangerang 3 IKEA opened its first Indonesian store on October 15, 2014 at Alam Sutera, Tangerang, located in the western suburbs of Jakarta.[85] On November 28, 2019 IKEA opened its second store in Sentul City, Bogor. IKEA also intends to open one more outlet in Jakarta Garden City, Cakung–its first store in Jakarta city proper in the future[86] On March 28, 2021 IKEA opened its third store in Kota Baru Parahyangan, Bandung, West Java; the first store outside of the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Area.[87] The opening of the Bandung store was delayed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[88] All are franchises owned by Hero Supermarket, a listed subsidiary of Hong Kong franchisee Dairy Farm International Holdings.[89][90] IKEA also has 7 pick-up points across Indonesia (all located on the main island of Java), of which 5 are in the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Area, 1 in Bandung, West Java, and 1 in Surabaya, East Java.
51 South Korea South Korea 2014 Gwangmyeong 4 The world's largest IKEA store at 59,000 m2 (640,000 sq ft)[5][91] opened near the Gwangmyeong Station, in Gyeonggi Province on December 18, 2014.[92] The second store opened in Goyang on October 19, 2017, which is even larger at 164,000 square meters (1.76-million square feet) in gross floor area, breaking the previous world record holder's 131,550 square meters. IKEA plans to have six stores in the country by 2020, four in the Seoul Capital Area, one in Daejeon and one in Busan.[93] The third store opened in Giheung-gu, Yongin on December 12, 2019.[94] The fourth store opened in Gijang County, Busan on February 13, 2020, making the first IKEA store located outside of the Seoul Capital Area.[95]

53 India India 2018 Hyderabad 2 IKEA began constructing its first store in India on 11 August 2016. The 37,000 m2 (400,000 sq ft) store in Hyderabad was built at a cost of 700 crore (US$98 million),[99] and was opened on 9 August 2018.[100] IKEA plans to open 30 stores by 2028, investing over 10,500 crore (US$2 billion).[101][102]

55 Bahrain Bahrain 2018 Salmabad 1 IKEA has completed building its first store in Bahrain costing $125 million with 6,200 square meters in floor area and opened to the public on 5 September 2018. It is regarded as the biggest store in the region.[105]

Philippines Philippines 2021 Pasay Swedish Ambassador-designate to Manila Harald Fries hailed the decision of Swedish furniture giant IKEA to open stores in the Philippines on November 17, 2016, during the reopening of the Swedish Embassy in Manila. The first IKEA store in The Philippines is currently under construction at The SM Mall of Asia complex in Pasay and is expected to open either 3rd or 4th quarter of 2021.[111] Once complete, it will be the largest IKEA store in the world, occupying 65,000 m2 (700,000 sq ft).[112] After its first store, IKEA plans to expand to 5-6 stores in Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo in 8 years' time.[113]
Chile Chile 2022 Santiago On May 17, 2018, Falabella holding announced a franchise agreement with IKEA to open stores in Chile, Peru and Colombia, rebranding Homy stores and opening new stores starting in Santiago.[114] It will be the first store in South America and will open in 2022.[115]

New Zealand New Zealand 2025 Auckland IKEA is planning to open a full sized store in Auckland, a smaller store in Christchurch in New Zealand's South Island along with a planning studio in the country's capital and second city, Wellington. Plans are currently being finalised and IKEA representatives are scouting for building locations.[119]
Vietnam Vietnam 2025 Hanoi In October 2017, Inter IKEA CEO Torbjorn Loof said in an interview with Bloomberg News that there were plans for the company to expand into Vietnam with the next five years.[120][121]
Oman Oman 2022 Muscat IKEA plans to expand into Oman as part of plans to enter about a dozen new markets in the coming years.[122]

IKEA has announced plans to open a 65,000 m2 (699,654.2 sq ft) store in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines by late 2021. Once opened, it will be the largest IKEA store in the world.[126]
