The ship was run down and sunk south of Helsingør, Denmark by Pallas (United States). She was on a voyage from Pärnu, Russia to Oporto, Portugal.[19]
The paddle steamer suffered a boiler explosion and sank in the Atlantic Ocean 30 nautical miles (56 km) off the coast of North Carolina with the loss of 128 lives. About 59 people were rescued.
