The McPlant is a vegan burger sold by the fast-food chain McDonald's.[3] In 2021, McDonald's partnered with Beyond Meat, a Los Angeles–based producer of plant-based meat substitutes, to create the McPlant.[4][5]

The McPlant was tested in the United Kingdom in October 2021, with expansion to California and Texas on February 14, 2022.[6][7]

In July 2022, Australia started serving the McPlant in Victoria as a limited run item.[8]

According to SFgate, the U.S launch of the McPlant has been terminated. This is an opinion article and not confirmed by McDonalds.

The McPlant is currently available in Portugal and the Netherlands

Product description[]

The McPlant uses a plant-based meat alternative burger patty made from plant ingredients such as potatoes, peas and rice[9] provided by Beyond Meat, iceberg lettuce, tomato slice, tomato ketchup, vegan sandwich sauce and a vegan cheese alternative cooked on a separate surface in the United Kingdom.[10] In the United States, American cheese and mayonnaise are used instead, as well as cooking the burger on the same grill as all other burger patties, making the McPlant not vegan in the United States.[11]
