Szymon Hołownia's Poland 2050 (Polish: Polska 2050 Szymona Hołowni, 2050 pronounced dwa tysiące pięćdziesiąt) is a political party in Poland founded by Szymon Hołownia as a movement in support of his campaign for the 2020 presidential election. On 7 April 2021, Poland 2050 officially became a political party.

History[]

The first information that Szymon Hołownia planned to establish a social movement appeared in February 2020, when he led a campaign for the 2020 presidential election. Hołownia officially announced the formation of a new movement on 30 June 2020 – two days after the first round of elections, in which he was placed 3rd with a result of less than 14% of votes. The organisation was registered on 24 August 2020, and five days later it was officially introduced. According to Szymon Hołownia, 20,000 people joined the movement.[9]

On 29 September 2020, Szymon Hołownia announced the creation of a political party associated with the movement, led by Michał Kobosko, whose registration (under the name "Poland 2050 by Szymon Hołownia") was filed with the District Court in Warsaw on 3 November 2020.[10]

In November 2020, the party gained its first MP in the Sejm: from the Spring party. By the end of the year, the party got between 10 and 20 percent in opinion polls, which made it the third most popular party in Poland. By the end of the year, Gill-Piątek and Jacek Kozlowski became the party's Deputy Chair.

On 8 January 2021, the party gained another representative in the Sejm (Joanna Mucha) and its first Senator (Jacek Bury). Both these members initially were members of Civic Platform, which was main party of the Civic Coalition.[11] On the same day, members of the Elk City Council and the Elk Poviat Council, including its chair Andrzej Wiszowaty, who were members of the local party Dobto Wspólne created the Poland 2020 Local Councillors club.

In February 2021, yet another member of the Civic Coalition (Paulina Hennig-Kloska of the Modern party) joined ranks of Poland 2050 in the Sejm. This allowed the movement to create its own Sejm circle. In March, another MP joined the party, an Independent politician and a famous journalist .

On 7 April 2021, Szymon Hołownia's Poland 2050 officially became a political party.[citation needed] 13 days later another member of Modern, , joined Poland 2050. On 20 May 2021, a former member of the government and Agreement, Wojciech Maksymowicz, joined the party and its group in Sejm, after he was attacked by the government media of performing medical research using aborted foetuses.

Ideology and Policies[]

Poland 2050, presented a green themed environmental logo at the party's convention.
  • Economy and Climate: Poland in the last 30 years was an economic success despite demographic problems; Poland should seek Gross Domestic Product growth; foster entrepreneurship; meet the challenge of digitization, both in seizing opportunities (innovation) and fending off new threats (cybersecurity); Poland should achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and transition off coal with long-term plans for miners and Silesia; Poland should help rebuild the global economy on the basis of sustainable development; defend Polish companies worldwide and particularly in the EU; enhance Poland's position in the global production chain; aid the defence industry; promote railway transportation, investment and funding, especially for smaller, inter-urban links so that railways can be an alternative to the highways and airways; increase public spending in health; secure government control bodies and increase transparency; start a sanation of the public finances
  • European Union: seen as Poland's "most important alliance"; priority to rebuild the Weimar Triangle with Germany and France, with the intent to become one of EU's deciding nations. The party favours a European Green Deal and applying the 'Green veto' to all bills that distance EU policy from the Green Deal. They want the EU to be a Union of Solidarity (cares for the unemployed and poor) and making distribution of EU funds conditional on the rule of law. They favour the creation of a digital single market, greater involvement in PESCO and a more ambitious EU budget.[12]
  • Family 2050 (Rodzina 2050): A policy about modernising family life in Poland. The party would create equal welfare for parents (including more paternity leave) and non-parents to pursue careers, provide more equal opportunities for children and promote independence for senior citizens (such as by introducing a minimum pension of at least 50% of the minimum wage).[13]
  • Health: The party supports stronger emphasis on prevention (such as promoting a healthy lifestyle), change of management (with a health care system based on preventive care, with increased number of general practitioners), devolving hospital management to provincial governments and restoring dignity to healthcare workers by relieving staff of administrative tasks, increasing health staff pay to discourage brain drain.[14]
