"Power" is a song by British girl group Little Mix, from their fourth studio album Glory Days (2016). The official remix of the song was released as the fourth and final single on 26 May 2017,[2] with additional vocals from British rapper Stormzy.[3][4] Lyrically, The song focuses on female empowerment and its equality.[5] The song has reached number six on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the group's eleventh top 10 single in the United Kingdom, and the third from Glory Days. The remix was eventually included on its reissue, Glory Days: The Platinum Edition (2017). "Power" was later featured as one of the theme songs for WWE's Royal Rumble 2018 event.[6] The song also features as the lip-synch song on episode 5 of the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, which featured Little Mix Member Jade Thirlwall as the guest judge.[7] Outlet magazine noted the song's fast-paced house-style synthesizer and instrumental background, and the song's robotic voice.[8] The song has been certified double platinum in the United Kingdom and Brazil.

Chart performance[]

"Power" was released on 26 May 2017 and it charted at number 6 on the official UK Singles Charts[9] The single reached number 2 in Scotland[10] and number 7 in New Zealand.[11] It would then go on to peak at number 17 in Ireland,[12] number 20 in Belgium,[13]and crack the Top 40 in Latvia[14] and the Philippines.

Music video[]

The music video was released on 9 June 2017, directed by Hannah Lux Davis, and filmed in Los Angeles in April 2017. It features each member of Little Mix as the leader of their own faction of women, in which Jesy Nelson leads a group of leather-clad bikers, Leigh-Anne Pinnock leads a fashion-forward street crew, Perrie Edwards leads a group of hippies, and Jade Thirlwall leads a troupe of drag queens. In the end, each faction comes together in a show of feminine power reminiscent of the Women's March. [15] The video features a cameo from famous drag queens Courtney Act, Alaska Thunderfuck and Willam, also known as The AAA Girls.[16] It also features Little Mix's mothers, who appear at the end of the video to march with them.[17] Stormzy's scenes, which were filmed separately from the rest of the video, feature him in a barbershop having his hair cut.[18]

Critical reception[]

The track was generally well received, with TimeOut magazine calling the song "brilliant", despite being "OTT" (over the top),[1] but some fans did criticize the decision to feature a male rapper on a song about female empowerment.[19]

As for awards, the track received an award for "Best Song" at the first ever Global Awards in 2018,[20] and for "Pop Song of the Year" at the 2017 Beano Awards.[21]
