Rybí (German: Reimlich) is a municipality and village in the Nový Jičín District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,300 inhabitants.

Geography[]

Rybí is located about 5 km to the east of Nový Jičín and about 6 km to the west of Kopřivnice. The village is geographically surrounded by three hills – from the north side by Libhošťská hůrka (494 m) and from the south by Holivák (485 m) and (outside of the municipality) Puntík (500 m).

Etymology[]

The name is derived from the Rybí stream (literally Fish stream), which is today called Rybský.[2]

History[]

According to local legends, Rybí existed already in 1241.[2] According to municipal website, Rybí was founded in 1397.[3]

Tourism[]

Due to great geographical location of the municipality with its hills and many forests is Rybí suitable for hiking or mountain-biking. There are many adjusted pathways and bike paths around the entire village. The adjacent forests are full of routes and tracks created by people, caused by logging or natural gas mining.

Rybí is suitable for skiing in the winter season. There are two platter ski lifts, one 200 m and second 450 m long. With many straight and large meadows located on the top of the hills the municipality is also suitable for cross-country skiing.

Transport[]

The connection from and to nearly towns of Nový Jičín and Kopřivnice is provided by local bus transport.
