Veřovice (German: Wernsdorf) is a municipality and village in the Nový Jičín District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has around 2,000 inhabitants. The municipilatiy is situated in south-eastern part of Moravian-Silesian Region as it lies on the border of Moravia-Silesion Region and Zlin Region. The first written mention of Veřovice is from 1411, however the municipality probably existed before 1293. The cadastral territory of Veřovice counts around 16,6 square kilometers. Veřovice are managed by voted mayor and the municipality council which is compound of 13 councillors including the mayor for the 5-year period.[2]

Cultural heritage[]

In Veřovice there are still several remains of historical Walachian architecture typically rural houses from 19th century. Most of the customs distinctive to the rural lifestyle of Walachia during this historical period have disappeared. However some, such as baking Frgál pie, manufacturing plum based spirit Slivovice, or performing traditional music and dance, continue to be practiced in the present.

Tourism[]

Outside the municipality Veřovice is known in terms of tourism thanks to a presence nearby Beskydy mountains. The highest point of the cadestral territory is Velký Javorník (918 m MSL) where streams a lot of hiking trails. Tourists head there as a looktower and restaurant built in 1935 could be found there. Another aim of the relatively high visitorship is a relatively satured paragliding site. Despite the fact touirists focus primarily towards Velký Javorník, the moutains of Veřovické vrchy offer a high amount of variably difficult hiking trails. The tourism has a long tradition in here, some of the turist trails are around 200 years old.[3]
