ScotRail Trains Ltd is a future Scottish train operating company owned by Transport Scotland. It will take over operation of the ScotRail franchise from Abellio ScotRail on 1 April 2022 as an operator of last resort.

History[]

In December 2019, Transport Scotland announced Abellio ScotRail had not met the performance criteria necessary to have its seven-year franchise extended for a further three years and the franchise would conclude on 31 March 2022.[1][2][3]

In March 2021, Transport Scotland announced that the franchise would not be re-tendered for another private sector operator to run, but would be operated by through an operator of last resort.[4][5][6]

ScotRail Trains will take over all of the services operated by Abellio ScotRail.[6]
