Stefanie van der Gragt RON (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsteːfaːni vɑn dər ˈɣrɑxt]; born 16 August 1992) is a Dutch footballer. She plays as a defender for AFC Ajax and the Netherlands national team where she represented the country at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup[2] and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.[3]
Club career[]
Her career started at the youth teams of amateur club Reiger Boys in Heerhugowaard.[4] She then played for Kolping Boys youth team, another amateur club in Oudorp.[5]
A move to AZ Alkmaar in 2009 started her professional career, as she was able to play in the highest professional national league (Eredivisie). After two seasons at the club, in 2011, she joined Telstar where she played for the next four years. In 2015 she moved to FC Twente[6] and after one season she joined the German Bundesliga team Bayern Munich.[7] Due to injuries, she had few opportunities to play in Germany and in 2017 she moved back to the Netherlands, signing with Ajax.[8] On 4 July 2018, she joined Spanish side FC Barcelona. On 12 June 2020, she moved back to join AFC Ajax.[9]
International career[]
Her debut for the Netherlands women's national football team came on 8 March 2013 against Switzerland in a 2013 Cyprus Cup match.[10]
She was also part of the Dutch teams of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup[2] and the winning team of the UEFA Women's Euro 2017,[11] playing all matches in both tournaments. At the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup,[3] she scored in the Netherlands' quarter-final victory over Italy.[12]
