Chittaphon Leechaiyapornkul (Thai: ชิตพล ลี้ชัยพรกุล, Korean: 이영흠 I Yeong-heum, Chinese name: 李永欽; Lǐ Yǒngqīn; born February 27, 1996), known professionally as Ten (Thai: เตนล์, Korean: 텐), is a Thai singer and dancer active in South Korea and China. He debuted with South Korean boy group NCT in 2016 with its first sub-unit NCT U. Mainly active as a member of the China-based unit WayV since 2019, he is also a member of the South Korean supergroup, SuperM.
Ten's first single "Dream in a Dream" was released in 2017 through the SM Station project.[1]
Early life[]
Ten was born in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 27, 1996, to a Thai Chinese family.[2] He studied at Shrewsbury International School.
In January 2011, he was a contestant of the Thai show Teen Superstar, under the stage name TNT. He won and earned the opportunity to sign a contract with Starship Entertainment, but ultimately refused.
In 2013, he joined SM Entertainment through passing an SM Global auditions in Thailand.[2]
Career[]
2013–2015: Pre-debut and SM Rookies[]
On December 23, 2013, He was introduced as a member of SM Rookies, a pre-debut team of trainees under SM Entertainment.[3]
In 2014, he alongside some of his co-members appeared on the Mnet-produced Exo 90:2014, a show starring labelmates Exo, where they get to do dance performances to 90s K-Pop songs, he also participated in the MV remake of G.O.D's "Dear Mother".
In July 2015, he and groupmate Jaehyun both competed in Hope Basketball All-Star.[4]
2016–2018: Debut and career beginnings[]
On April 3, 2016, Ten was confirmed as a member of boy group NCT, in the first sub-unit, NCT U, he officially debuted with NCT U's digital single, "The 7th Sense" released on April 8, and it was also the first release of NCT overall.[5]
He also participated in Mnet's dance program Hit the Stage where he won episode 6.[6][7][8]
In January 2017, he joined the cast of SBS's program, Elementary School Teacher, which shows idols from foreign countries improving their Korean language skills as well as becoming more accustomed to Korean culture.[9]
On March 24, 2017, SM Entertainment released a teaser for Ten's first single through the SM Station Season 2 project titled "Dream in a Dream". The song was released on April 7.[1] It was announced on the same day that Ten is the new member of SM Entertainment's performance team SM The Performance. Ten subsequently concluded the project with his single "New Heroes" on April 6, 2018 which peaked at number four on the Billboard's World Digital Song Sales.[10] Dream in a Dream was then included in NCT's first studio album NCT 2018 Empathy. For the album, Ten also participated in the release of the NCT U's single "Baby Don't Stop", a duet which he recorded alongside Taeyong. He also made an appearance in the "Black On Black" music video as a member of NCT 2018.
2019–present: WayV, SuperM[]
On December 31, 2018, it was announced that WayV, an NCT China-based boy group managed by Label V, a subsidiary of SM Entertainment, would be formed. The group consists of Kun, Winwin, Ten, Lucas, Hendery, Xiaojun, and YangYang. They officially debuted on January 17, 2019, with their debut EP The Vision and the Chinese version of NCT 127's "Regular" as its lead single.[11][12]
On July 16, 2019, Food Truck Battle started its broadcast on Thailand channel PPTV with Ten as the MC. The show also got a week-late broadcast on the show's official YouTube channel. It featured both Thai and Korean celebrities such as Nam Tae-hyun, Park Ye-eun, Kitty Chica, and James Teeradon.[13]
On August 8, 2019, it was announced that Ten would be joining Taemin of Shinee, Baekhyun and Kai of EXO, Taeyong and Mark of NCT 127, and Lucas of WayV in SuperM, a "K-pop supergroup" created by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records. The group's promotions began in October and are primarily aimed at the American market.[14][15] SuperM released their self-titled debut EP on October 4, 2019, and became the first K-pop group to rank number one on Billboard 200 with a debut album and subsequently went on a tour in North America and Europe.[16][17][18]
In September 2020, it was announced that NCT as a whole would be making a comeback with their second full album NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1, to be followed by the repackage album NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 2 in November. In the first part, Ten participated in the b-sides "Faded In My Last Song" (with NCT U) and "Nectar" (with WayV). In the second part, Ten was the only member to partecipate in both title tracks, "90's Love" and "Work It".[19]
On August 10, 2021, Ten released his third solo single under the SM Station project titled "Paint Me Naked".[20] On August 17, Ten debuted as part of WayV's second sub-unit named WayV-Ten & Yangyang with single titled "Low Low".[21]
Other ventures[]
In June 2021, Ten launched a five-piece apparel collection with a direct-to-fan retailer Represent.[22] Titled What is ??? The Answers, the collection features his original artworks.[23]
Personal life[]
Ten is a multilingual, and speaks Thai, English, Korean and Mandarin.[22]
In 2018, Ten received an official exemption from Thailand's mandatory military service due to his failure at passing the physical exam. His past injury and knee surgery had deemed him unfit for military service.[24]
