Trespone is a village in Sankoo tehsil in Kargil district of the Indian union territory of Ladakh. Trespone is a model village located 20 km from kargil in the Suru side. ..trespone is the name of block abbreviated as T.S.G it consisted of five villages Saliskote,g.m pore .tambis .kanoor and trespone ..

Situated on the bank of Suru river, A majestic and historical village called as Lhunchey (Now Trespone). Its history takes us back in the 14th century.

Landmark and historical place


This villages takes you back in the 14th century when there used to be forts and palaces. people used to travel by horses. when a letter takes 2 to 3 months to reach to its recipient. when people were so simple and honest.

Situated on the bank of Suru river, and surrounded by 5 other villages, this village act as a center figure for the other villages. An inhabitants of around 7000+ living in around 20 mohallas. it was once ruled by the then emperor, Tha Tha Khan, who was a buddhist by faith but later embraced Islam and married to a muslim women from the village. Thus got the surname, KHAN.

The village got its name because of its vastness in area and the hospitality of the people. Lhunchey came from LHAN-PHO-CHEY, which means elephant. Elephant being a bulky mammal and thus Lhunchey came into existence. later in the 18th century, it got its name as Trespone. There are sayings that Trespone got its name from TREE-SPOON.

On the hilltop, a beautiful Tibetan-persian mixed architectural monument is erected, which serve as a platform or viewpoint to the village and the surrounding area. It has been renovated several times. This monument is purposely built to gather people during the month of Muharram to commemorate the martyrs of Karbala. thus called as Imambara.
