The Type 075 landing helicopter dock (NATO reporting name Yushen-class landing helicopter assault) is a class of Chinese amphibious assault ship under construction by the Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding company for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). It has a full-length flight deck for helicopter operations and features a floodable well deck from which to disembark hovercraft and armored amphibious assault vehicles.[8]
History[]
The development work on the Type 075 officially started in 2011.[9] The image of construction was revealed in June 2019.[10]
The first ship launched on 25 September 2019[8][11] and was commissioned on 23 April 2021.[1] It suffered a minor fire while fitting out on 11 April 2020. Reportedly, the fire was quickly extinguished[12] and caused minimal damage; construction was apparently not slowed.[13]
A third ship was under construction in April 2021.[14]
The second ship started sea trials on 20 December 2020 and the third ship on 25 November 2021.[15][16]
Design[]
The Type 075 has a full-length flight deck for helicopter operations and features a floodable well deck from which to disembark hovercraft and armored amphibious assault vehicles.[8]
The Type 075's size and tonnage is estimated to be greater than most contemporaries, with exceptions including the United States Navy's Wasp class and America class.[17]
