The 2022 Nepalese local elections are going to be held in 13 May, 2022 in 6 metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitan cities, 276 municipalities and 460 rural municipalities.[2] It will be the second local level election to be held since the promulgation of the new constitution.[3]
Electoral system[]
Each local level has a Chairperson/Mayor and a Deputy chairperson/Deputy Mayor. Local levels are further subdivided into wards which have a ward chairperson and 4 members out of which 2 must be female with 1 one of them from the Dalit community.[4] The Chairperson/Mayor and a Deputy chairperson/Deputy Mayor are chosen by voters of the entire local level while Ward Chairperson and Ward Members are chosen by voters of the concerned ward. A single ballot is used for voting and First past the post electoral system is used to select the winner.

Qualification for candidates[]
According to Part 17 of the Constitution, a person who meets the following criteria is qualified to become a candidate for various elected offices of the local level:[5]
- citizen of Nepal,
- completed the age of twenty one years,
- registered voters of concerned local level,[e] and
- not being disqualified by any Federal law,
Parties and alliance[]
Democratic alliance []
Debates on Alliance are on while party portfolios including Vice-president Dhanraj Gurung and General Secretary Gagan Thapa have publically opposed possibility of any electoral alliance.[6][7] Senior leaders including Shekhar Koirala, Bimalendra Nidhi, Shashanka Koirala and Prakash Man Singh have also opposed the possibility of any electoral alliance with major parties.[8][9][10][11]

CPN (UML) leaders including chairman KP Sharma Oli and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel have publicly declined the possibility of going to election in a pre-poll alliance.[13][14]

Left alliance[]
CPN (Maoist Centre) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has made claims publicly that there would be four party alliance in upcoming elections merely for a long time.[15][16] Similarly, leaders of CPN (Unified Socialist), PSP-N and Rastriya Janamorcha have made announcement regarding the possible electoral alliance.[17][18][19]

After the declaration of date of election, conducted meeting of party portfolios and former portfolios which gave decision of running candidates in all local levels. Still the party didn't rule out the possibility of alliance with parties of similar ideology including restoration of Hindu state and Constitutional monarchy.[20][21]
