Datuk Awang bin Hashim is a Malaysian politician who has served as Deputy Minister of Human Resources for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Minister Saravanan Murugan since August 2021. He served his first term in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Minister Saravanan Murugan from March 2020 to August 2021 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Pendang since May 2018.
Datuk Awang bin Hashim is widely known amongst Malaysians for being a bully towards a local news reporter recently, simply because the latter isn't English literate.[1] The unfortunate incident has forced him to raise concerns within the Malaysian Parliament, suggesting to enforce all official news undertakings to be conducted in the national language, Bahasa Malaysia.[2] Unfortunately, Datuk Awang bin Hashim is not able to communicate in the official language, Bahasa Malaysia fluently but rather communicates with Kedah's state slang, also known as localized village language. Several parties and supporting members are raising concerns in regards to the lack of awareness Datuk Awang bin Hashim has and wonders if he is truly a people's party or a self-centered person.
