Begusarai railway station (code BGS), is a railway station in the Sonpur division of East Central Railway. Begusarai is better known as the Industrial Capital of Bihar, The birthplace of noted poet Rashtrakavi Ramadhari Sungh Dinkar and Karmabhoomi of the Great freedom fighter ,1st CM and architect of modern Bihar Dr. Shrikrishna Sinha alias Sri Babu. Begusarai is a Industrial and Commercial hub, a district headquarter town and a municipal corporation. The township of IOCL Barauni Refinery is situated in Begusarai Municipal Corporation area. On commercial point of view Begusarai railway station is a main station of Begusarai district in the Indian state of Bihar. In spite of all these facts more than one dozen pairs of long distance mail express trains are not stopping here. Due to non availability of better train facilities passenger of Begusarai are compelled to board trains from Mokama (MKA), Hathidah, Barauni junction (BJU) , Khagaria and Patna . After inauguration of Shrikrishna Setu Munger ganga bridge people were expecting trains to Bhagalpur , Howrah , Bhuvaneshvar , Chennai , Hyderabad , Bengaluru , Rameshvaram from different locations of Bihar , UP , Uttarakhand , JK, Delhi , Haryana , Punjab , Rajasthan , Gujrat and Maharashtra but due to some reason it's still a dream only.

The major facilities available are waiting rooms, computerized reservation facility and vehicle parking. The vehicles are allowed to enter the station premises. The station also has STD/ISD/PCO telephone booth, toilets, tea stall, fruit stall, dairy stall, meal stall and book stall. The station has total 3 platforms. The platforms are interconnected with foot overbridges. It has two foot overbridges. ECR Daily Rail Passenger Association is demanding Grade A status , Stoppage of all long distance trains and better passenger amenities . Several electrified local passenger trains and express trains run from Barauni Junction to neighbouring destinations (Katihar, Munger, Saharsa Junction, Purnia, New Jalpaiguri, etc.) .[2][3][4]
