Cebu Technological University (CTU) is a public, non-sectarian, coeducational State-funded higher education institution located in Cebu, Philippines.

The university has 40,000 students on 23 campuses located throughout the province of Cebu. Its main campus is situated in Cebu City, the capital of the province of Cebu.

CTU has established linkages in six continents: Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, and South America.

History[]

Cebu Technological University, formerly known as Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST), became a state university on November 10, 2009 by virtue of Republic Act No. 9744.

It started as Cebu School of Arts and Trades in Cebu City, Sudlon Agricultural College in Lahug, Cebu City, Abellana National School in Cebu City, Danao Vocational School in Danao City, Tuburan Vocational School in Tuburan, Moalboal School of Fisheries in Moalboal, Argao Agro-Industrial School in Argao, Quirino School of Fisheries in Carmen, Manuel A. Roxas Memorial School of Fisheries in Daanbantayan, and Magsaysay School of Fisheries in San Francisco, Camotes Islands. These were integrated into Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST) System on June 10, 1983 by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 412. It was mandated that the new state college shall expand its curricular programs focusing on higher technological education.

On December 16, 2003, to fully standardize and to highly institutionalize the entire management of its educational system, Cebu State College of Science and Technology was granted Certificate of Registration by Anglo-Japanese American (AJA) Registrars Incorporated in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System Standards, with Certification No. AJA 03/6952 giving it international recognition. On October 8, 2009 the University’s QMS was recertified compliant to the new version, ISO 9001:2008 standards by the Anglo-Japanese American (AJA) Registrars Inc., and on November 26, 2018 the university QMS earned its certification of the ISO 9001:2015 standards by the TUV Rheinland.

In 2020, CTU became one of the first public universities  in Cebu to be awarded an overall rating of three stars by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars team, following CHED’s announcement of being one of the grantees of the “Fostering World Class Philippines Universities Project” in July 2019.[1]

Rankings and Reputations[]

Proving its drive to take the lead and deliver quality education to its stakeholders, CTU made history by becoming the first university in Cebu to be awarded an overall rating of three stars by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars team, a London-based independent compiler of the QS World University Rankings. Cebu Technological University was awarded Three stars rating in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Star Rating System. CTU is among the first public universities to be ranked in the QS Stars University Ratings under the Fostering World Class Philippine Universities Project by the Commission on Higher Education.[3]

In the same year, Cebu Technological University was also given the 1st Philippine Higher Education (PHEI) Internationalization award by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).[4]

In 2020, Cebu Technological University was awarded as the top innovator in South and Southeast Asia by Clarivate Plc, a global leader in providing trusted information and insights to accelerate the pace of innovation. [5]

CTU was also declared the winner in the Government Best Practices Recognition 2019. The university was selected among 156 entries from 95 government organizations in the Philippines. CTU’s entry highlighted ‘Hablon sa Cebu’, CTU’s local handweaving community development project in Argao. The recognition was given by the Development Academy of the Philippines, highlighting government agencies’ achievements making transformative actions in communities. [6]

Additionally, CTU was awarded the SUC Level IV-Highest in the National level and SUC Level V-Highest in the Regional level as per Commission on Higher Education (CHED) MEMORANDUM ORDER No. 12 series of 2018 for State Universities and Colleges (SUC) Levelling Evaluation was conducted pursuant to DBM Joint Circular No. 1 series 2016.'' Cebu Technological University-Public Employment Service Office (CTU-PESO) has been a consistent recipient of the BEST PESO award from 2007-2019. [8]and remains outstanding in the IP Statistics-Utility Model in Home Technology and was awarded by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL) for having filed and registered the most number of utility models from 1998-2017 under the Academic Institution Category.[9]

Internationalization and ASEAN Integration[]

CTU has established international connections with universities in six continents: Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North America, and South America.

Faculty Mobility[]

Teaching staff of the university have worked in collaboration with foreign educational institutions, such as giving lectures at Dongseo University in South Korea, and marine biology talks at National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan.

Student Mobility[]

Students have the opportunity to participate in overseas programs. Some of these include Agriculture programs in Europe and Asia, as well as Hospitality and Management programs in the United States.
