Gennady Borisovich Bekoyev (Russian: Геннадий Борисович Бекоев; born 1981) is a South Ossetian politician who is the acting prime minister of South Ossetia. Bekoyev was appointed to the position following the dismissal of Erik Pukhayev by President Anatoly Bibilov.^[1] Bekoyev is an independent.^[2]

Political career[]

Prior to his appointment as the acting prime minister, Bekoyev was an active member of South Ossetian politics. In 2004, Bekoyev started working for South Ossetia's defense ministry as a public administrator. In 2017–18, he was the head of the South Ossetian industry committee. In November 2018, Bekoyev was appointing by Bibilov as the deputy prime minister.

On 29 August 2020, Bibilov announced the dismissal of then-prime minister Pukhayev. Pukhayev announced that he was stepping down from his position due to the demands of protestors. The protestors were protesting the death of a detainee that had allegedly attempted to assassinate the Interior Minister, Igor Naniev. Naniev was suspended from his duties indefinitely until an investigation was complete. To fill the position left by Pukhayev's dismissal, Bibilov appointed Bekoyev as the acting prime minister, a step up from his former post as deputy prime minister.

Bekoyev will remain in power until a new cabinet is formed, following the resignation of the previous one.^[3]
