Gubadag is a city and capital of Gubadag District in the Daşoguz Province of Turkmenistan. The administrative center of the district is the city of Gubadag. Gubadag is known for its special round meat pie, known as fitchi (Turkmen: "fitçi"; Russian: "фитчи"). The city is located on the border with Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan), near Mang‘it.

Etymology[]

Frank's and Touch-Werner's dictionary defines guba as "reddish-brown" and dag as "mountain". Atanyyazow asserts the name derives from the reddish-brown hills in the vicinity.[1][2]
