Controversy and credibility[]
Indian Idol show has been in the news for controversies. The contestants say that the work of increasing the TRP of the show is done by showing them the poor householder on TV.[24] The show is rumoured to be just a means of earning money and playing with the lives of talented contestants.[25] Playback singer and ex-judge of Indian Idol Sunidhi Chauhan and Kishore Kumar's son Amit Kumar revealed that they were asked to praise all the contestants irrespective of their opinions. They were told to not criticize any contestant even if they don't like his/her performance.[26] Singer-composer and ex-judge of Indian Idol Salim Merchant also revealed that he too was asked to praise contestants by the makers of a show.[27] Playback singer and winner of the first season of Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant criticized the show for focusing on fake love stories and poverty instead of singing talent of its contestants.[28]
