Lords Institute of Engineering and Technology (LIET) is a self-financing Muslim minority Autonomous engineering college in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, 11 km from Mehdipatnam.It is recognized by Telangana State Council of Higher Education (), Government of Telangana; Approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE); Affiliated to Osmania University; Accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'A' Grade, National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL); Conferred as Autonomous by University Grants Commission (UGC) from 2021 to 2032 and empanelled in UGC 2F. LIET hosts the Telangana Chapter of International Network for Outcome Based Education IN4OBE which is first in India.[3]

Ranking[]

The college was ranked among top 25 private engineering colleges in Telangana by The Times of India consecutively four times in 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017.[4] It was ranked 8th in Hyderabad and 112th in India by Outlook in 2019, 9th in Hyderabad and 94th in India by The Week[5] in 2020 and Dataquest ranked the Institution 69th in the top T-Schools in the country based on DQ CMR survey, published in April 2019 and awarded "Best Infrastructure in South India" in September 2015.[6] Awarded as "One of the best Engineering Institutes in South India" in July, 2015 by Lokmat which is the largest read regional language newspaper in India.[7] Ranked No. 2 in the list of top promising engineering institutions by Competition Success Review.[8]

The college admits total 1140 undergraduates through the statewide TS-EAMCET exam for regular students and TS-ECET exam for diploma and polytechnic students through lateral entry. It offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degrees in:

126 students are admitted through GATE and PGECET for the Master of Engineering (M.E.) / Master of Technology (M. Tech) degrees that are offered in:

The college also admits 120 postgraduate students through ICET for Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree offered by the Department of Management Studies in:

Admissions are also offered to International students[9] and Non-Resident Indians.[10]

The college is located in a campus of 10 acres at Himayat Sagar Lake. The 3 lakh sq. ft. built up area houses facilities for academic and non-academic learning for the students.[11] The college is having SWAYAM NPTEL local chapter in association with IIT Madras which issued 94 NPTEL certificates till date;[12] SWAYAM PRABHA in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur for attending online lectures; and remote center of IIT Bombay with RCID-1481 to conduct MOOC, STTPs and FDPs.[13][14]

The Central Library is spread over an area of about 12,378 sq. ft. with seating capacity of about 400 students in the reading area and 30 computers for access to digital library subscriptions and E-resources such as DELNET, J-GATE, EBSCO, etc. making it one of the big libraries in Hyderabad. There are more than 9,794 titles, 37,987 volumes, 6225 E-Books, 8000 science e-Journals and 17,900 engineering e-Journals, 135 print journals and 1618 CDs collection.[15] There are food courts and a canteen.[16] There is a dispensary with doctor on call facility for any medical treatment, along with tie ups with nearby hospitals during emergency.

Training and Placements[]

Lords Career Advancement Cell was established in 2005 for catering to the needs of Training and Placements. The college is having a track record of job offers to students from various multinational companies with average package of 4.8 LPA. The highest package offered is 13.2 LPA by Education and second highest is 10 LPA by Byju's and third highest is 8 LPA by Saint Gobain respectively. Total 42 companies interviewed the students in 2019-2020 and 48 companies in 2018–2019.[8]

Technology Business Incubator[]

Lords Institute of Engineering and Technology is recognized as the host institution for business incubation by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) under its scheme for Startups. It also hosts Institute Innovation Council (IIC) under the Innovation Cell, implemented the National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP) and other initiatives of the Ministry of Education (India). It is also an active participant in all activities conducted by Telangana State Innovation Cell (TSIC). The college has applied for the Atal Ranking of Institutions (ARIIA) and awaiting ranking in band-2. Presently there are twelve startups incubated at Lords Technology Business Incubator which are supported with seed grants, mentoring by industry experts, networking with stakeholders, and providing access to investment opportunities. Some of the notable startups from the college include Inv Plastocons Pvt. Ltd.,[17] Bizrah Health and Lifestyle Pvt. Ltd.,[18] Bioreform Pvt. Ltd.,[19] Yusuf Khan Foundation,[20] Aliya Humanitarian Foundation [21] etc. which are mentored by faculty members.[22]

There is an active Entrepreneurship Development Cell (E-Cell) which is entirely managed by students for creating awareness and conducting motivation sessions to students encouraging them to consider entrepreneurship as a career option.[23] Regular visits are arranged for students at leading incubators in the state such as T-Hub, WE-Hub, CSIR-CCMB AIC, ALEAP WE Hub and others as well as academic incubators such as IIT Hyderabad, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, etc. Apart from this, there are more than twenty vibrant Student Clubs such as Scholastic Tutelage, Orators Club, Photography Club, Energy Club, Coding Club, Robotics Club, Deep Tech Club, Women Entrepreneurship Club, Social Club, Speakers Club, Food Tech Club, Ecopreneurs Club, Rural Development Club, etc. as per the interest of the students.[24]

Each department of the college in combination of faculty members and students have produced several innovations which have won prizes at various national and international level competitions. Some of them include generation of water from Dew Drops,[25] Smart Helmet to reduce the accidents on road,[26] Artificial Leaf that converts Carbon Dioxide to Fuel,[27] Disinfectant Drone to combat COVID,[28] Oxygen Concentrator which to help the patients suffering from Covid-19,[29] Money Cure for Currency Sterilization, Mist based Vaporized Disinfector Cave, Pedal Driven Sanitizer, Drone Sanitizer , etc.[30][31] Acetylene based fuel for bikes using carbon and water[32][33] Spherical Wheel Bike which can move vertically, horizontally and also rotate 360 degrees,[34][35] three tyre car using Solar Cells and aerodynamic design,[36] Idea of the Month challenge is conducted every month where students are encouraged to submit their ideas which are rewarded based on its relevance to innovation, entrepreneurship and intellectual property.

Research and Consultancy[]

There are two research centers recognized by AICTE including the Centre for Research in CFD and the Centre for Research in IC Engines which received funding of Rs. 11.5 lakhs under MODROB scheme. Two-weeks Faculty Development Program on "Image Processing and Remote Sensing" was sanctioned Rs. 5.46 lakhs by AICTE under AQIS scheme. One-week online AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) sponsored Faculty Development Program on "3D Printing and Design" was conducted in 2021 with a sanction of Rs. 93,000.[37]

The college has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lincoln University College, Malaysia for postdoctoral research opportunities to faculty members along with exchange programs, short visits, overseas internships, etc. for the students.[38] The faculty members of the college are recruited from top Universities in India and abroad including from Kumamoto University, Japan; London South Bank University, United Kingdom; International Islamic University Malaysia; National Aviation University, Ukraine; King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia; etc. There are currently 39 faculty members with Ph. D qualification and 36 still pursuing; 10 are acting as Ph. D supervisors and 20 are serving as reviewers and editorial board members in international journals published by Elsevier, Wiley (publisher), Springer Publishing, etc.; 2 are having fellowships with Higher Education Academy, UK and Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA), USA respectively.

The college is offering consultancy services to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for Quality Inspection of Infrastructure works and has bagged the contract for fourth consecutive year in 2021 with total projects worth 200+ crores in Indian Rupees to be certified by the college.[39] Some of the other clients include L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, Sagar Cements Ltd., Vasant Chemicals Ltd., Everest Organics Ltd. and Recipharm Ltd. which is one of the five largest pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organizations in the world. Lords Audyogik Centre[40] driven by consortium of engineers and intellectuals was stated in the campus to offer training services to factories.

Student life[]

National Service Scheme (NSS)[]

Lords Institute of Engineering and Technology is having an active chapter of the National Service Scheme (NSS) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under which various social service activities are conducted regularly such as Swachh Bharat Mission, Haritha Haram, Blood Donation Camps, Medical Health Checkup, Traffic Rules Awareness, etc.[41] The college is selected by Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Scheme, Ministry of Education to adopt five villages namely Qutubuddinguda, Medipalle (village) and Yelkaguda of Moinabad mandal; Sagar and Darga of Rajendranagar mandal under Ranga Reddy district of Telangana State.[42] where students in consultation with the office of the District Collector have participated in the survey and provided solutions to the identified problems through technology intervention which are funded by UBA.

Sports[]

Every year, as part of Sanketika, the Inter-College Fest, an inter-department sports competition is held.[43] Competitions are held in various sports such as Football, Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, Kabadi, Track and Field events.[44] Students have won several awards including BWF Junior World Badminton Championship, Kazan, Russia; International Neymar Jr Five World Football Championship, Brazil; South Zone Inter University Cricket Tournament, Mysore; All India Inter University Taekwondo Tournament, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak; All India Senior National Muay Thai Boxing Championship, Indore; All India Inter University Hockey Tournament, Alagappa University, Karaikudi; Reliance Foundation Youth Sports,[45] Football Tournament by Sporting Club Vijayanagar, Hyderabad; All India Slum Football National Championship, Mumbai; All India Inter University Wrestling Tournament, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani; South Zone Inter University Football Tournament, Vellore; 6th Telangana State Inter Engineering Collegiate Football Tournament, CMRIT Medchal; 1st ISKU Telangana State Invitational Karate Championship, Hyderabad; etc.[46]

Alumni[]

Lords Alumni Association is registered as a non-profit organization under the Societies Registration Act., Government of Telangana which is managed by a committee of active Alumni enrolling members from those who graduate from the institution. There is a strong Alumni connect and engagement in the form of annual Alumni Meets, regular guest lectures and seminars delivered by Alumni, internships for students offered by their startups, placement opportunities through employee referral program of their respective workplace, etc.[47]
