Denmark was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 by Jakob Sveistrup with the song "Talking to You", written and composed by Jacob Launbjerg and Andreas Mørck. He placed third in the semi-final and then ninth at the final. His song was selected through Denmark's national selection process titled Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2005[]

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2005 was the 35th edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the music competition that selects Denmark's entries for the Eurovision Song Contest. The event was held on 12 February 2005 at the Forum Horsens in Horsens, hosted by Birthe Kjær, Annette Heick and Jarl Friis-Mikkelsen.

Format[]

Ten songs competed in one show where the winner was determined over two rounds of voting. In the first round, the top five songs based on the results of a public vote qualified to the second round. In the second round, the winner was determined by regional televoting. The results of the public vote were revealed by Denmark's four regions, with the voting figures of each region, alongside with the SMS figures being converted to points. Viewers were able to vote via telephone or SMS.

Competing entries[]

DR opened a submission period until 10 October 2004 for artists and composers to submit their entries.[1] The broadcaster received 236 entries during the submission period. A selection committee selected ten songs from the entries submitted to the broadcaster.[2] The competing artists and songs were officially presented on 8 December 2004.[3]

Final[]

The final took place on 12 February 2005. The running order was determined by DR and announced on 13 January 2005. In the first round of voting the top five advanced to the second round based on the results of a public vote. In the second round, the winner, "Tænder på dig" performed by Jakob Sveistrup, was selected by regional televoting and SMS voting.

At Eurovision[]

Because Denmark failed to qualify for the final in 2004, Jakob had to compete in the semi final. For Eurovision, "Tænder på dig" switched to English lyrics, with the new title "Talking to You". Denmark performed 24th in the semi-final, following Slovenia and preceding Poland. Denmark qualified to the final, placing 3rd in the semi-final and scoring 185 points.[4] In the final they performed 13th, following Serbia and Montenegro and preceding the Sweden. Denmark finished in joint 9th place (with Norway) with 125 points.[5]

The spokesperson who revealed Denmark's votes for other countries was Denmark's 1983 entrant Gry Johansen.[6]
