Winthrop, Missouri

Winthrop is an unincorporated community in Buchanan County, in the U.S. state of Missouri.

History[]

An variant name was "East Atchison".[1] A post office called Winthrop was established in 1861, the name was changed to East Atchison in 1878, and the post office closed in 1923.[2] The present name is after John Winthrop (1587–1649), second governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and an English Puritan leader.[3]
