- – Amtrak plans to restore passenger services east of New Orleans along the Gulf Coast to Mobile, Alabama.[1][2] Service along this segment was "temporarily" discontinued in 2005 due to damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.
February[]
- – The Washington Metro Silver Line is projected to be extended to Ashburn station via Washington Dulles International Airport.[3][4][5]

- April 1 – ScotRail Trains to takeover from Abellio ScotRail as operator of ScotRail franchise[7]

- – The Link light rail Line T is expected to be extended to the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington.[8][9][10][11]

- – Toronto subway Line 1 Yonge–University is expected to introduce ATC at the full length of line (as of 2020, it is 70% completed).[18]

- – Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's K Line expected to open after several delays.[19]

- – Expected completion of Wendlingen–Ulm high-speed railway.[20]
- – Opening of Agra Metro.[21]
- – The first section of Milan Metro Line 4, between Forlanini FS and Linato Aeroporto, is scheduled to open.[22] The section will be disconnected from the rest of Milan Metro network.

- – Scheduled opening of Metro Express (Mauritius) phase 2B.[25]
- – Red and Blue lines of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit estimated opening.[26]
