2023 IIHF World Championship

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2023 IIHF World Championship will be hosted by Saint Petersburg, Russia held from May 5 to 21, 2023. This decision was made at the semi-annual IIHF congress, which is now held in Malta. Officially, it was announced on May 24, 2019 at the annual congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation during the World Championships in Slovakia. [1][2]

In February 2022, in condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called for Russia to be stripped of hosting rights to all international sporting events.[3] Russia's hosting of the 2023 World Championship and World Junior Ice Hockey Championships will be discussed in a meeting of the IIHF on 28 February 2022.[4]
