The Butuan–Cagayan de Oro–Iligan Road, or Butuan–Cagayan de Oro–Iligan–Tukuran Road and also known as Lanao–Pagadian–Zamboanga City Road in the Zamboanga del Sur section,[1] is a 416-kilometer (258 mi), two-to-six lane major thoroughfare, connecting the provinces of Agusan del Norte,[2] Misamis Oriental,[3][4] Lanao del Norte,[5][6] and Zamboanga del Sur.[1]

The entire highway is designated as the National Route 9 (N9) of the Philippine highway network.

Route description[]

Butuan to Cagayan de Oro[]

The highway starts at the junction with the Maharlika Highway (Surigao-Butuan National Highway) in Ampayon, Butuan. It then passes the Agusan River and traverses the poblacion area of Butuan. Past Butuan, it soon enters the municipalities of Buenavista, Nasipit, and Carmen before reaching the province of Misamis Oriental.

Cagayan de Oro to Iligan[]

Iligan to Tukuran[]

The road passes to Iligan city then many towns in Lanao Del Norte. It soon enters Aurora in Zamboanga del sur. It makes a junction on Ozamiz-Pagadian Road. The highway enters Tukuran which is one of the two towns in the road that is part of Zamboanga del sur. The highway ends at a junction in Maharlika Highway (N1/AH26) and thus, ending the route in Tukuran.

History[]

During the American colonial era, the highway's section from Butuan to Iligan was part of Highway 1 in Mindanao, while the section from Butuan to Tukuran was part of Highway 7.[7] By 2014, the highway was designated by the Department of Public Works and Highways as N9.
