Escort Way is a New South Wales state arterial road running from the Mitchell Highway (A32) in Orange to the Lachlan Valley Way in Forbes.[1] The name derives from the notorious hold up of the Lachlan Gold Escort by bushrangers in 1862 which occurred along the route. The naming dates from 1979 when lobbying by the Canowindra Historical Society for the name change and appropriate signage was successful. [2] Escort Rock, a heritage-listed geological formation is located adjacent to the road near Eugowra.
