Rémi Joseph Isidore Exelmans (1775–1852) was a general of Napoleon's cavalry. He was captured by Spanish guerrillas in 1811, but managed to escape from a boat in the English Channel while being taken to England. He distinguished himself at the battle of Rocquencourt, the last battle fought by Napoleon's Grande Armée, on 1 July 1815. He received the Grand Cross of the Légion d'honneur in 1850 and was made a Marshal of France in 1851.
