Parukh (Armenian: Փառուխ) or Farukh (Azerbaijani: Farux) is a village that is, de facto, in the Askeran Province of the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh; de jure, it is in the Khojaly District of Azerbaijan.
History[]
During the Soviet period, the village was a part of the Askeran District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast.
Historical heritage sites[]
Historical heritage sites in and around the village include the cemetery of Kalen Khut (Armenian: Կալեն Խութ) from between the 9th and 13th centuries.[1]
Economy and culture[]
The population is mainly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. As of 2015, the village has a municipal building, the Parukh branch of the Khramort Secondary School, and a medical centre.[1]
Demographics[]
The village has an ethnic Armenian-majority population, had 42 inhabitants in 2005,[2] and 72 inhabitants in 2015.[1]
