Gardabani (Georgian: გარდაბნის მუნიციპალიტეტი, Gardabnis Municiṕaliťeťi) is a municipality in Georgia, in the region of Kvemo Kartli. Its main town is Gardabani.

Modern History[]

Until 1917, the actual municipality was under the Tbilisi Uyezd. In 1921, with the administrative division of the Georgian SSR, the municipality was in the Tbilisi Uyezd but in 1938, the municipality was separated from the Tbilisi Oblast to form the Karaya Rayon. In 1947, the name changed for Gardabani Rayon.

Politics[]

Gardabani Municipal Assembly (Georgian: გარდაბნის საკრებულო) is a representative body in Gardabani Municipality. currently consisting of 38 members. The council is assembles into session regularly, to consider subject matters such as code changes, utilities, taxes, city budget, oversight of city government and more. Gardabani sakrebulo is elected every four year. The last election was held in October 2017.[3]

Economy[]

In 2012, there was 42 populated areas, including one city (Gardabani), 2 "daba" and 39 villages. The urban population was 16200, and in villages was 83500, so 85% lived in villages. The municipality's incomes comes from : Industry (mostly electricity), construction, services, agriculture and public services. The priority for the municipality is the development of agriculture and industry.

The incomes of the population come mostly from agriculture and minor businesses (Shops,...) and public services.
