Line 2 of Metro Bilbao starts at Kabiezes and ends at Basauri. Its route covers the municipality of Basauri, Etxebarri, the city of Bilbao, and the left bank of the Nervión river. Currently, Line 2 has 25 stations.

History[]

The first phase of the route was opened on April 13, 2002, with five stations; Gurutzeta/Cruces Station, Ansio Station, Barakaldo, Bagatza Station and Urbinaga Station. Line 2 joins Line 1 at San Inazio Station, and from that station to southbound both lines form a common line (from San Inazio Station to Etxebarri Station).

On January 8, 2005, two new stations were opened; Sestao Station (after Urbinaga Station on Line 2) and Etxebarri Station (before Bolueta Station, on the common line) and which today is the terminal station.

On January 20, 2007, Line 2 was extended with two new stations, Portugalete Station and Abatxolo Station, both in the municipality of Portugalete.

On July 4, 2009, two more stations were opened in Line 2, Peñota Station and Santurtzi Station, both in the municipality of Santurtzi.

On February 28, 2011, one more station was opened in Line 1 and Line 2, Ariz Station, in the municipality of Basauri.

On November 11, 2011, one more station was opened in Line 2, Basauri Station and making the end Ariz Station-Basauri Station an extension of Line 2, separated from the common trunk as both Line 1 and Line 2, both in the municipality of Basauri.

On June 28, 2014, one more station was opened in Line 2, Kabiezes Station, in the municipality of Santurtzi.
