South Korean boyband BTS has received Million certification five times for over 15 million album sales. Their 2020 studio album Map of the Soul: 7 is the first album with Quadruple Million certification and the best-selling album in South Korea.[1] It is also the first Korean album to sell over 4 million copies in Gaon Chart history.[2]
EXO (pictured in 2016) is the first artist after BTS to receive Million certification, for their fifth studio album Don't Mess Up My Tempo—it was certified in January 2019.
Wanna One (pictured in 2018) was one of the first groups to receive a certification in May 2018, for their EP 0+1=1 (I Promise You).
Twice (pictured in 2018) has received eight certifications, the most of any artist.
Blackpink (pictured in 2019) is the first K-pop girl group to receive Million certification, for their debut album The Album.

The Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) was established in 2008, with the purpose of promoting the professional interests of its members, as well as being involved in anti-piracy. It introduced the first official South Korean music charts in 2010,[3] and implemented record certifications in April 2018—only releases subsequent to January 1, 2018 would be eligible once they fulfilled the required thresholds. Releases prior to that date cannot receive certification.[4][5] Since 2018, 96 albums have been certified in South Korea by the KMCA.

The first albums to be certified were Got7's Eyes on You, NCT's NCT 2018 Empathy, and Wanna One's 0+1=1 (I Promise You) extended play (EP) on May 5, 2018. As of August 2021, South Korea's highest-certified records are Map of the Soul: 7 (2020) and Map of the Soul: Persona (2019), the fourth studio album and sixth extended play of boy band BTS—the records were awarded quadruple million certification in April 2020 and May 2021 respectively for selling over four million units. Twice, Blackpink, Iz*One, Rosé, IU, and Itzy are the only female artists to receive album certifications. Twice was the first female act to receive a certification, for their What Is Love? (2018) EP, and has the most certified records of any artist with eight.[citation needed] Blackpink is the first and only girl group to receive Million certification, for their debut studio album The Album (2020).[6] Baekhyun is the first solo artist to receive Million certification, for his third EP Bambi (2021).[citation needed]
