The following is a list of the 100 largest cities in Africa by city proper population using the most recent official estimate. This reflects only cities located geographically in Africa including nearby islands.

Kinshasa, the capital and largest city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Central Africa, is the nation's financial hub and economic center.
Lagos, Nigeria is the second-largest city in Africa and one of the primary economic hubs for the continent.
Cairo, Egypt had formerly been the largest city in Africa, until having recently been overtaken by the fast-growing Lagos and Kinshasa.
Riverside of Giza, a mega-suburb of Cairo and the second-largest city in Egypt with over 9 million inhabitants.
Skyline of Dar es Salaam: the largest city in Tanzania and eastern Africa.
Khartoum, the Sudanese capital and a major logistic turntable.
Johannesburg, the largest city and economic hub of South Africa and all of southern Africa.
Abidjan, Ivory Coast's largest city and economic center, also the most populous one in French-speaking West Africa.
