List of most expensive non-fungible tokens

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of the highest known prices paid for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) representing digital assets. The current record price is approximately US$69.3 million paid for Beeple's digital artwork entitled Everydays: the First 5000 Days in March 2021.[citation needed]

Background[]

The monetisation of digital assets has long been discussed in the technology world. One of the earliest NFT projects was a 2017 project called CryptoPunks by LarvaLabs, on the Ethereum blockchain[1] and many of the most expensive NFTs sold have been images from their Cryptopunks series.[2] There were some NFT-like projects or "proto NFTs" that pre-date CryptoPunks, Rare Pepes released on Counterparty in 2014, and Etheria released on Ethereum in 2015.[citation needed] Since then, NFTs have grown to become a speculative market.[citation needed]

As of 14 March 2021, 41% of NFT sales were marked as relating to the gaming industry.[3] One landmark NFT sale not mentioned in the list is CryptoKitties' Dragon, which sold for 600 ETH.[4]

List of highest prices paid[]

This list is ordered by consumer price index inflation-adjusted value (in bold) in millions of United States dollars in 2020.[note 1] Where necessary, the price is first converted to dollars using the exchange rate at the time the NFT was sold. The inflation adjustment may change as recent inflation rates are often revised. A list in another currency may be in a slightly different order due to exchange-rate fluctuations. NFTs are listed only once, i.e. for the highest price sold.
