The Melon Music Award for Song of the Year is an award presented by Kakao M at the annual Melon Music Awards. The award was first introduced at its inaugural online ceremony in 2005 and is one of the most prestigious awards given at the event, alongside Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. From 2005 to 2008, Melon Music Award winners were announced online. Since 2009, the ceremony has been held offline in Seoul—with the exception of 2020–21. The breakdown of the award criteria currently consists of 60% digital sales and streaming figures, 20% judges evaluation, and 20% online voting.[1]
