Turkish football clubs have participated in European football competitions since 1956, when Galatasaray took part in the European Cup. In total, 33 Turkish clubs have participated in European competitions to date. The greatest success was achieved when Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 2000.[2] Göztepe reached the semi-finals of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the 1968–69 season, thus being the first Turkish team to have played in a semi-final in European competitions.[3]

Kayserispor won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2006.[2]
