Wongaling Beach is a tropical beachside coastal town and locality in the Cassowary Coast Region, Queensland, Australia.[2][3] In the 2016 census Wongaling Beach had a population of 1,245,[4] making it the most populated suburb in the town of Mission Beach.
Geography[]
A 14 km stretch of wide golden sands make up Mission Beach and link its four coastal towns, including Wongaling Beach. Mission Beach (locally known as North Mission) and South Mission Beach sit either side of Wongaling Beach.[5]
History[]
The suburb takes its name from its beach where the town allotments were surveyed in 1973. Wongaling is an Aboriginal word meaning pigeon.[2]
Wongaling Beach Library facility was given a major refurbishment in 2002.[6]
Climate[]
Wongaling Beach has a tropical climate. The nearest Bureau station with monthly weather statistics is in South Johnstone which is located 35.4 km from Wongaling Beach.

Education[]
Despite its name, Mission Beach State School is located in Wongaling Beach. The school has provided education since 1955. In 2018, 314 students between Prep and year 6 attend the school. Other than that, the town also features a childcare facility.[8][9]
Sport[]
Cassowary Coast Multisports Club organise an annual 5 km, 10 km and 21 km run along the beach, beginning and ending in Wongaling Beach.[10]
Facilities[]
Wongaling Beach contains a Woolworths supermarket, the largest supermarket within a 42 km radius. The suburb also features one medical centre, Mission Beach Police Station, Mission Beach Fire Station, Mission Beach Ambulance Station, a local primary school, a town pool, a library and skate park. A community funded 'Splash Pad' was also opened in August of 2018.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council operates Wongaling Beach Library at Tully-Mission Beach Drive, Wongalling Beach.[11][12][13][14]
