DYWF (93.1 FM), broadcasting as 93.1 Brigada News FM, is a radio station owned by Vimcontu Broadcasting Corporation and operated by Brigada Mass Media Corporation. It serves as the Visayas flagship station of Brigada News FM. The station's studio is located at the 2nd Floor, JSU-PSU Mariners' Court-Cebu, ALU-VIMCONTU Welfare Center, Legazpi Ext., Pier 1, Brgy. San Roque, Cebu City, while its transmitter is located at the 28th Floor, Winland Tower Condominium, Juana Osmeña Ext., Cebu City. The station operates 24 hours a day.[2][3]

History[]

  • The station was inaugurated by Visayas-Mindanao Confederation of Trade Unions on May 1, 1976, under the call letters DYLA-FM, ten years after DYLA was founded on September 27, 1967, when officially signed on the air.
  • In 1992, upon the newly established of Vimcontu Broadcasting Corporation, the station changed its call letters to DYWF and was rebranded as Smash FM 93.1 using the English medium. It aired a Modern Rock format with the tagline The only rock station in Cebu.
  • In September 1997, Mareco Broadcasting Network, which was owned by Mareco, Inc. led by Luis Villar, acquired the station's airtime lease and relaunched it as 93.1 Crossover with a Smooth AC format. At the time MBN took operations, Crossover went on the air on 93.1 FM.
  • In 2003, Vimcontu Broadcasting Corporation took full control of the station and brought back its Smash FM 93.1 branding. Despite reverted its format, the station added Bisrock to its format to serves radio listeners in Metro Cebu. Meanwhile, Crossover moved to the then-newly acquired 90.7 FM, which UBSI was acquired by MBNI the same year.
  • On September 1, 2009, Smash FM 93.1 was officially rebranded as Club Radio 93.1, becoming the city's first and only FM radio station playing an all-dance format. It lasted until February 2013, when it was rebranded back as Smash FM and switched to a mass-based format.[4]
  • On July 27, 2013, Brigada Mass Media Corporation, owner of Brigada Newspaper & its flagship station in General Santos, took over the station's operations. DYWF was relaunched its news operations as 93.1 Brigada News FM with former RMN Cebu and DYKC Cebu radio announcer and current station manager of the station, Raul del Prado. This is the third Brigada station in Visayas after General Santos and Koronadal. The station's old transmitter was replaced with a new 25,000-watt state of the art transmitter that Brigada installed. After two months of local operations on a test broadcast, on October 1, 2013, Brigada News FM was formally launched and it is the first music and news FM station in the city.
